Avoiding Online Pharmacies That Require No Prescription

By: Rcon Franchesca

In line with the alarming increase in the number of rogue pharmacies found on the Internet today, the United States’ Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is full force in warning consumers on the possible dangers and health complications associated in buying any medicinal product or supply at unlicensed or rogue online pharmacies.

Since rogue Internet drugstores are not registered to dispense or distribute any form of medicine, there is a big chance that these sites are offering prescription and over-the-counter medications and drugs that could result to health complications and financial issues.

FDA is doing everything it can to protect and inform online consumers on the best ways to avoid online pharmacies that require no prescription. The said institution believes that consumers can truly enjoy the convenience and benefits of shopping for prescription medications via the Internet if they are to educate themselves properly and set high standards on using web services.

Setting high standards on utilizing online resources

Take note that rogue online pharmacies may appear sophisticated or well-established, but these sites are not actually operating within the laws set and regulated by FDA. It is quite easy to become a victim of the inefficient and false promises of rogue online pharmacies, especially the first timers in utilizing varying Internet services. To avoid online pharmacies that require no prescription in their services, one should set high standards in deciding which service websites to use on the Internet.

In choosing for an online pharmacy, remember that websites that can be trusted should be/have:

* Established in the United States.
* Licensed to operate by the state board pharmacy.
* Requiring valid prescriptions from licensed doctors and health care professionals.
* A licensed pharmacist available.
* Complete contact information posted on the website.

On the other hand, rogue pharmacy websites are, obviously, the opposite of legitimate online pharmacies. These hoax Internet drugstores can send consumers medicinal products and supplies with unknown origin or quality since majority of these sites do not really know or record their clients’ health conditions. Rogue online pharmacies are notorious in selling medications without valid prescriptions, and these sites are also known in selling or sharing their clients’ personal and financial information to third party entities.

Becoming familiar with prescribed medications

During the consultation with a registered or licensed doctor, consumers should see to it that they completely know and understand why the medications are prescribed to them. They should also make it a point to ask their doctors what the medicines taste and look like, including the texture, shape, and color of the drug.

Consumers should also be wary on the medications’ packaging. If the container of the drug is unsealed, there is a possibility that the package is already opened and the content is altered.

As for consumers who opt to use the services of unlicensed online pharmacies, they are sure to receive medications that are not FDA-approved; are not labeled and shipped properly; are not made in line with efficient standards; and are not safe to use along with other forms of medications.
