Buy Your Next Car At A Government Or Police Auction

By: Isabel Childs

Check out a government or police auction the next time you buy a new/used car. It doesn't matter if you're looking for a car, truck, or SUV, you can find them all there at super discounted prices.

In years past these auctions were a closely guarded secret, out of the reach of the general public. And while you still can't get into a dealer-only auction, you can go to one of your local open-to-the-public car auctions or check out one of the online public auction sites. It's amazing how inexpensive shipping a car can be, particularly if you have saved thousands on the purchase of your new car.

You might ask if the public is taking advantage of these auctions. Unfortunately not, the majority of potential buyers seem to think that the cars are garbage even though a lot of them are newer models and well-maintained. Also, as previously mentioned, they still feel that it is difficult to find these auction sites.

Are you wondering just where all these vehicles being auctioned off came from? Well, some of the vehicles are seized by government agencies such as local and state police, the FBI, IRS, DEA and ATF for various offenses. Still others come from government agencies that are trading their vehicles in for newer ones. Even though these are top quality cars, trucks and SUVs, they still need to get rid of them.

Car auctions can save you a ton of money. The regular retail price can't even come close to the price you can get in public car auctions. If you know what you are looking for, you can find a car in extremely good condition for a fraction of the retail value.

Don't forget to do a mechanical inspection on the vehicle of your choice before bidding on it. Most newer cars still have a Manufacturer's Warranty in place. To be sure that there aren't any problems though, you really should take the time to give it a once over.

By doing a couple of simple tests, you can see if a potential car has any glitches you should be aware of. First, start up the car, place your foot on the brake and then put the car in reverse and then back into drive a few times. Make sure there is no unusual clunking sound or jumping forward when you change gears. Check for signs of leaking and/or spots on the ground under the car and pass up any car that has thick gooey, pasty oil.

Before you take in any government or police auction, make sure you know what kind of car you have in mind and its' approximate retail value to ensure you are getting a good deal. Mechanical inspections, either done by yourself or by a pro, are a must. One thing to always keep in mind is that the police and other governmental agencies really don't want to have an inventory of used cars on their hands, so they are only too happy to sell them for a remarkably good price. This truly is the easiest way to buy a new vehicle as you will never have to deal with haggling or back and forth negotiations again.is no more stressful negotiating or haggling that you have to be a part of.
