Instead of staying at one of the many beautiful hotels why not, book yourself one of the many villas in Crete. There are quite a number of advantages to be gained from doing this and one is that you can decide when, where and what you do during your visit to this island in the Mediterranean. Many people who stay in villas find that it is like staying in a home a way from home and offers them a chance to sample the kind of life that the people who live on Crete enjoy all year round. Plus you choose the pace at which you can explore everything that this beautiful and serene Island has to offer to its visitors. Whilst staying on the island there are plenty of activities to do as well as museums and archaeological sites for you to visit. During these, you will be able to learn more about the history of this island. But although most of the museums and sites are free to enter, there are a few, which will require you to purchase a ticket. Plus you need to be aware when organizing visits to such places that they are not open throughout the week or year. The Historical Archives of Crete Museum which is to be found in the town of Chania is only open from 08.00 to 13.00 and is closed on Saturdays, Sundays and Bank Holidays. Along with learning about Crete's history, there are other things that you may want to do and which are a little more exciting (especially for the kids). If you want, why not book yourself on to a Pirate Ship Tour, which offers you the chance to visit some of the islands more secluded beaches. During the tour on either the Barbarossa or Captain Hook, stops are made where you have a chance to take photographs or participate in the games organized by the ships crew. To further add to authenticity of the trip all crew members wear full pirate regalia. If this seems like a little too much excitement for you during your stay on the Island of Crete then why not take a Dolphin Tour instead. However, these trips (which last 2 or 3 hours) only take place during the summer months but are worth the time. Along with viewing dolphins in their natural habitat during the 3-hour boat trip, you stop at the village of Panormo where you have the chance to try out some local seafood delicacies if you wish. Staying in a hotel on Crete is fine, but with Villas in Crete, you have the chance to experience the kind of lifestyle that the locals of Crete enjoy throughout the year. Plus staying in villas in Crete offers you more freedom and choice as to what you do during your stay.
