Gift Giving Tips and Suggestions for All Family Members

By: Albert James

The search for the perfect gift is an experience that everybody will have at least once in his or her lifetime. With all of the magazines and gorgeous displays in stores, it is easy to simply buy a generic present, especially when the recipient is a mere acquaintance. What is one to do, however, when the recipient is a loved one, deserving of a well-thought out present? Well, with a bit of creativity and a little thought, it is possible to find the perfect present for any family member, for any occasion.

The trend for wedding gifts has resorted to just giving money, but try to buy something that you think they would like to have, but most probably wouldn?t purchase them self. For anniversary gifts why not give these couples cash that they could put towards a trip or a special event. A most appropriate gift in memory of a funeral is a donation. Perhaps to a club or group the deceased belonged to in memory of them.

On a happier occasion, perhaps a birthday, what kind of gifts do women want? That depends on the woman. If she enjoys cooking, perhaps a new cookbook; if she likes to paint, perhaps an easel. Some women like jewelry; others would prefer a night on the town. A useful present isn't necessarily appropriate, however-as practical as it might be, very few women want to unwrap a new vacuum cleaner. What is given also depends on the relationship between the giver and recipient. The sort of thing that a man would buy for his grandmother should be different than what he would buy for his wife.

When men receive their gift, the first thing that runs through their mind as they are opening it is ?oh! another new shirt?. Think about things you have heard him wish for. For example wanting to go see a sports event or perhaps trying out a new golf course. It is things that he would like to do but never seems to get the chance. Make up a personal gift coupon book that relate to wishes. Wrap it up in a big box, and then he will be really surprised when he?s looking to un-wrap that new shirt.

Let?s assume you need to buy a gift for your sister. Consider a ?you and me? day. Plan an all day event around what she likes to do. For example if she loves to go to a movie, then plan a day event that leads up to this. How about some window shopping, a casual lunch, then off to her choice of favorite movies. The important part of this gift would be that you are part of it. It?s a ?you and me? day.

Children are generally simpler than adults to buy for, simply because they are more vocal. Generally, when asked, most adults will say something along the lines of 'Oh, I don't need anything.' Not so with children. You can also consult a parent if it is not your child for whom you are getting present. In fact, if it is not your child or at the very least a child that you see frequently, consulting a parent is always a good idea. Some parents may not want their children playing with certain toys-for example violent video games-or may feel awkward if you end up spending more than a certain amount of money.

No matter the occasion, or the recipient, finding the perfect present for a loved one is never an impossible task. The most important thing is to get something that will be meaningful to them, because only you can. The heartfelt present is bound to put a smile in their face, a tear in their eye, and love in their heart.
