With all the talk in the media lately about your credit report and how important it is to stay on top of it and know what is exactly in your 3 credit bureau reports, many individuals do not understand the importance of checking everything that is listed on each of your individual reports. Whether you order 3 separate reports from TransUnion, Equifax and Experian, or you order a merged report from a site such as www.FreeCreditReportDaddy.com it is important to look at all of your reports, or possibly you obtained what is called a merged report, and double check each entry because what shows up with one bureau may not show up with another and vice versa. Many people experience errors in their credit reports and it is up to you to be proactive and take the steps necessary to correct such errors. Since there are three bureaus that provide creditors with information it is very important to make sure that all 3 reports are gone over line by line. It would not be good practice to correct errors on one report and then apply for a loan only to find out later that you were turned down because the lender was looking at a different bureaus report. Also if something correct is showing up on one report do not assume that it is showing up on another, this is one reason why when you receive your scores that each one is different. Not every lender subscribes to the reporting services of all 3 credit bureaus and not all lenders subscribe to the ability to pull all bureaus reports. In addition to checking out the credit lines that are reported, one must also make sure that the personal information is correct as well. Check to make sure that your name is spelled correctly and that there are not numerous versions of your name. Other entries that are important to double check are your birthdate, social security number and addresses. If you see various addresses that you have never received mail at this should be a red flag that possibly someone is using your information, so be sure to check this area out thoroughly. Additional items listed under your personal information will include past employers, any liens you may have, judgments and possibly criminal activity depending on the type of report you pull. It is very important to stay on top of your credit report so that when you get ready to apply for credit, rent a home or apply for a new job that you do not get hit with any surprises. As soon as you find something that is incorrect the time to act is immediately so that you will have the time to get these matters handled and off of your credit report before they cause issues to your personal credit rating.
