Some persons were just born to be artists. Once they have it mentally, it is in their blood, and there truly is no way to get rid of it. I have known this to be true a lot of times. I know a lot of them, I am married to one, and there are some in my family. I even know a few from the other side of the globe. They all have a few things in common. They are talented, and nothing that could stop them from singing, even after an illness threatens their way of life. The biggest problem they have is finding the right people to play with when one group does not work out. This is when the musician referral occurs, and this is how many good artists meet each other. There are many places to find a musician referral, and I know there are a lot on Internet. The problem is finding someone who resides nearby, and someone who has talent and the motivation to give up time for the success of the group. There are many talented musicians out there, but styles and personalities do not always fit. That could be the difficult part of a musician referral. Some like to give more time than others, and some have no sense of what it implicates to be in a band. Great performers obviously find each other, but it is more complicated than it looks. If you have to use a musician referral, first make sure to be explicitly clear about what you are expecting for in a group mate. You may need a guitar player, but do you need someone that has their own car? You have to think about how often you practice. Will they be able to show without fail each time? You also have to consider the equipment. Do they have enough? What experience do they have? Do they like the same style of music? Do they have responsibilities that could keep them from gigs? Those are all excellent questions that should be discussed when using a musician referral. It might sound discouraging to recrute an artist through a musician referral, but it is a good method to go about it. Don't forget to give it time, and don't just pick the first musician that responds without knowing if they are a fine match. My boyfriend told me that the best musician referral is other bands, and he doesn't mean asking them if they know somebody. Groups look for musicians from other bands all the time. It's not quite honest, but it looks like it's part of the deal. Best of luck to you and enjoy your search into finding a perfect musician match.
