Mistakes happen all of the time. You might have bills listed on your credit that you know are not items that you are responsible for. It is important to have these things removed. If you have items that look really bad and you are responsible for them you will need to pay them. However, you can explain why certain things are on your credit. Errors on your credit may cause your credit score to be lower than it should be. It may even be the reason you don't qualify for the car or home you really wanted. You should never allow an error on your credit to remain on the reports. If you have mistakes on your credit report it is important to have them removed or fixed. There are many different types of mistakes that might appear on a credit report. You might show a collection where you owe more than you really do. An item may be listed that shouldn't be there at all. Your contact information may be inaccurate. Any error listed on your credit can be repaired and you must do something about it. If you notice that you do have items listed on your credit that you are not responsible for you can do something about it. It is up to you to fix these mistakes. You don't have to hire a company to fix them for you either. All you have to do is get the account number on your credit report, the amount of money you owe for the item, and the name of the company. You will have to write a letter to the credit company and dispute the item. For instance, if Trans Union has an error on your report that says you owe a company $200 you will write a letter to Trans Union. You need to let them know that the listed item is an error and you do not owe them any money. When you write letters and dispute items on your credit the major credit companies will dispute the claim with the company listed on your report. The business will then have 30 days to provide proof that you do indeed owe the bill. They will have to provide something with your signature on it or proof of agreement that you entered into a contract with them and owe them the listed amount. If the company provides proof that you do indeed owe the money listed on your credit report the item will remain on your report. If the business cannot provide proof that you owe the claim to the credit reporting agency the item will be stricken from your report. It is easy to have items removed from your credit report if you see errors. You shouldn't hesitate to contact the credit reporting agencies if you see something on your report that should not be there. It is important for your financial security to properly monitor your credit and take care of errors on your credit if they are there. Your credit scores will remain as they should be.
