An extra number was added to give the house a better advantage, and American roulette was born.

When gambling and casinos were illegal in France, the game became popular elsewhere. Hamburg, Germany, was a special hotspot for the game. Roulette players flocked to Hamburg to play the game, and took the idea of roulette with them when they left. Soon roulette was spreading throughout the world.

With gambling legalized in France, most games could be played anywhere, except for roulette. The game was allowed to be played only in Monte Carlo. This rule restricted the game until 1933.
