The Medical Uses Of Psilocybin Mushrooms

By: Chris Channing

Of all the mushrooms commonly eaten around the world, the psilocybin mushroom is perhaps the most popular. The psilocybin mushroom has been proven in studies to show benefit to medical patients- and it has even been proven to help cure mental afflictions. But psilocybin mushrooms are mysterious in their workings in the human body- something that researchers hope to unravel.

The current debate over psilocybin mushrooms is about their legality and medical benefits. It was long ago declared by the United Nations that psilocybin mushrooms are potentially hazardous. But since then, studies have come forth that declare that not only is this not proven, but medical benefit has indeed shown to result from ingestion of psilocybin. Although this is true, one should never ingest the mushroom if it is banned or without doctor supervision.

The psilocybin is interesting to study, as it has adverse effects on the human body. Oddly, the psilocybin compound is not toxic and does not harm the body in normal doses. The psilocybin compound also does not create addiction or dependency problems with patients, as studies currently show. Although this remains true, emotional dependency may be possible.

Countries that don't support the mushroom's use sometimes use it in medical cases nevertheless. Psilocybin mushrooms are very useful for curing clinical depression, headaches, over compulsive disorder, and many other mental problems that aren't always so easy in aiding. Most of the countries that do not allow the mushroom have indeed been lenient towards medical usage.

Psilocybin mushrooms are named after their key ingredient- psilocybin. This ingredient works to distort all of the senses in various ways. Even just 1 to 2 grams of the psilocybin mushroom can give the patient a noticeably distorted effect on their environment. When ingested, the psilocybin is turned into psilocin within the body, which is in turn responsible for hallucinations.

For medical patients who have tested the compound, there are basically two ways a resulting episode can pan out. A good effect can be obtained from a good environment- while nightmarish episodes may result from a poor one. In this case, it's best that medical patients be put in a pristine and optimal environment before ever ingesting the psilocybin, so as to prevent such poor experiences.

When it was stated that doctor supervision was necessary for medical usage of psilocybin, it was stated so with good cause. The body can build up a tolerance to the psilocybin, in which case the medical patient will need more to get the same results. This can continue until the user overdoses on psilocybin, which just goes to show that medical usage should always be monitored in all cases.

The psilocybin compound is a very beneficial medical compound that has been used to treat all sorts of illnesses. But until further studies and research can continue to produce results, it is recommended that medical patients take care in ingesting the compound. Doctor supervision is necessary- and it should never be an option to ingest the compound if it is banned in the citizen's country in which they are present. All in all, only time will tell whether or not the true benefits of psilocybin mushrooms will pan out to be worthy of critical medical reception or not.
